The Reopening of Walt Disney World
This morning, the Walt Disney Company presented their proposed plans for a phased reopening of the Walt Disney World Resort. This plan is still pending approval from the State of Florida, but this plan is expected to be approved.
Here is what we know so far:
- Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom will reopen on July 11, 2020.
- Epcot and Hollywood Studios will reopen July 15, 2020.
- Bob Chapek, appearing on CNBC, would not provide a percentage of capacity the parks will operate at, but stated that the amount of guests allowed would be dictated by the ability to maintain a social distancing space of six (6) feet.
- A new ticketing system is being designed which will allow only a limited number of guests to obtain tickets for a particular date. Disney is suspending new ticket sales at this time to to "focus on guests with existing tickets and reservations," per the Disney Parks Blog.
- Guests will be subject to temperate screens and required to wear masks. This is the same practice being observed at Shanghai Disneyland.
- Parades, nighttime shows, character meet and greets, and makeover services are being temporarily suspended.
- Annual Passholders will have an opportunity to obtain tickets in phases as tickets are made available. More information will be sent to passholders.
More information can be found at DisneyParksBlog.com Right now, details as to what will or will not be available, health and safety checks, etc are being slowly released. This is likely to allow Disney some flexibility as the state of the virus evolves over the next 45 days before the park opens.
We will continue to update as more information becomes available.
